The capital wanted a different conversation. How much debt a business could carry. How quickly a handful of companies could be assembled and sold. Every structure came with an exit date already attached.
The Gap
We wanted what the sellers wanted, and we wanted to make decisions a business would still be glad of in ten years. We had also come to believe the alternative was running out of room. A model built on selling to the next buyer works only for as long as there is a next buyer.
We could not find the capital we needed, so we created it.
We built HCG to buy companies in industries we understand. Companies we can see ourselves owning forever, and never want to sell.
